Thanks to eHarmony, there are 236 new marriages every day. Think about that for a second, that's a massive impact on the world all because of the dating website eHarmony. In this eHarmony review, we explore the good and bad of eHarmony, so follow along to potentially find your next soulmate!
The first four points I want to make will cover the pro's of EHarmony, while the following three are cons.
eHarmony Pros
1. EHarmony is for people seeking a serious relationship.
IF you're in the dating game with the eventual goal of finding a long-term partner, then eHarmony is for you. Unlike some other dating websites like Tinder, EHarmony is specifically designed to match you with someone you can resonate with. Just how does EHarmony do that?
2. World-class matching system.
EHarmony has been around for 19 years and over that time has perfected its matchmaking software. Upon signing up for an account, you'll go through a rather in-depth questionnaire asking you thins like, you're religious preferences, thoughts on kids, and a whole lot more. EHarmony uses 29 key metrics that, according to EHarmony, will predict happiness and, therefore, the success of a relationship. That means you won't necessarily need to sort through hundreds of profiles, hoping to find someone you resonate with. Instead, you'll instantly be matched will people who could bring you a whole lot of happiness in a relationship.
3. Free Account Use
EHarmony is a bit of a tease when it comes to its account use, but I appreciated the free gesture. eHarmony allows you to sign up with a free account and use it for an unlimited period of time. However, there are pretty big limitations on free accounts. For example, you cannot actually communicate with other members. Instead, you can only review profiles. So, once your scrolling away and you set your eyes on your next sweetheart, EHarmony hopes you'll then be convinced that your next significant other is worth its monthly subscription cost. Why is that a pro and not a con? In my eyes, the free account lets you test out how "good" the EHarmony matching system is without paying for it. IF you want to put it to use, then you pay.
4. Account flexibility and support
eHarmony offers three plan options, which vary slightly in price. The basic plan comes in at $60 per month, or if you pay upfront, then as little as $20 a month for a year subscription. You can also select other options for three and sixth-month memberships as well. This basic plan gives you the most access you want except for two things. The next tier up offers the "full connect" plan, which offers an extended personality profile and system to verify your identity and membership. That means a more secure and trustworthy service since you know the profile really is who they say they are. No surprises! Finally, the extended premier profile offers something quite unique! IF you're still using the site after 12 months, then this account type kicks in. The benefit here being you will be able to connect with agents who will help you find matches for free.
eHarmony Cons
1. Restricted Search
Due to the way eHarmony uses the matchmaking system, you cannot search for profiles on your own. That's right; you'll instead be subject to the algorithm of eHarmony. For some, this seems a little "sub-optimal." You may be wondering how does a computer algorithm knows what I want/need anyway? Although I can't really answer that, I can redirect you to the fact that eHarmony is responsible for hundreds of marriages each and every single day, so they must be doing something correctly.
2. More expensive than other dating websites.
eHarmony is a "premium" among the dating website world. This may or may not be a good thing depending on your outlook, but I couldn't ignore the price point. Given the massive amount of competition, it would seem eHarmony would be more willing to offer a lower price point to compete, but then again, it looks like eHarmony doesn't need to compete. It's also worth noting that your next soulmate is probably worth $60 a month for just a few months too.
3. Free account restrictions
Most other dating websites give you temporary access to premium features for free. This kind of subscription just doesn't exist with eHarmony. Instead, you're free account essentially just dangles the carrot in your face, but doesn't let you act on it. Although that business model does seem to make some sense, I had to put this as a con since it seems the only eHarmony does this.
Furthermore, if you sign up for a free account, you can only use it as a straight person. Don't panic, eHarmony does offer gay and bisexual profiles too, but you'll need to pay for those. I'm also unclear as to why this is the case, or if it will ever change. It could be due to the fact those features are still somewhat new to the site and likely require hours to improve and develop them further.
Conclusion
eHarmony is a staple among dating websites. Thanks to eHarmony, hundreds of couples meet and form relationships on a daily basis. Although eHarmony does have a few negatives, it seems the pros far outweigh them. With a world-class matching system developed over nearly two decades, eHarmony is probably the most realistic dating website in terms of finding your next soulmate.
